Scandic Bryggen Review: An On-the-Harbor Hotel in Honningsvåg
I rarely review chain hotels on my sites unless there is a reason to do so. Maybe the design is unique at a location or it offers something worth putting out there on the web. Or maybe… there are three hotels from the same chain in a city of around 2,100 people and you want to let people know what the stay at your favorite one is like.
And, that is why I have decided to write up a short review about Scandic Bryggen in Honningsvåg, Norway.

There are three Scandics on Magerøya (two in downtown Honningsvåg and one on the way to North Cape) and while I have only ever stayed at Scandic Bryggen, I have seen all three and can confirm that this Scandic location has everything you’re looking for if you want to stay in downtown Honningsvåg.

Therefore, if you’re looking for the best places to stay near North Cape, this is most definitely one of them and you can find out more below.
Why I Stayed at Scandic Bryggen in Honningsvåg
I have been to Honningsvåg and North Cape twice. Once in 2019 during the summer and once in 2025 during early April. In 2019, I was working on Fodor’s Travel ‘Essential Norway’ (2020 Edition) and I teamed up with Visit Nordkapp for quite a few of my activities and accommodation. This was one.
They put me in Scandic Bryggen for a couple of nights and I extended my stay but had moved to another place on Magerøya that no longer exists. I enjoyed my time at Scandic Bryggen so much that I immediately booked it for my next trip to North Cape.
Here are a few highlights from my stay:
Breakfast
In typical Scandic fashion, you will find a standard Norwegian breakfast at this Magerøya hotel. It consists of some hot items like bacon, baked beans, and eggs as well as some cold items like sandwiches, yogurt, and more.

Something I particularly love about this Scandic is that they encourage you to make yourself a ‘matpakke’. A matpakke is pretty much a ‘lunch-on-the-go’ where you pack cold sandwiches and save them for later. Their matpakke option was 95 NOK (about $9).

I didn’t take advantage of it as I was excited to try out places in Honningsvåg, but I encourage you to do so if you’re going to be on the road all day. If the price is more than you’re looking to spend, you can always head to the Extra (grocery store) on Storgata and grab something a little cheaper.
Rooms
The rooms were nothing different than your usual Scandic room, but they are spacious which I think is great for someone claustrophobic (like me!). I booked the Standard Twin Room as it was the cheapest option and included breakfast. It also included a desk which is good for me as I work remotely a lot of times.

The shower and bathroom were clean and also spacious. They also provided toiletries.
Good to Know
While the rooms are not loud by any stretch, the walls are a bit thin. If you’re a light sleeper, bring earplugs with you.
Curtains are blackout curtains… which is very important during the summer months! And some rooms offer sea views, but I didn’t pay for that on my latest stay.
Easy Parking & City Access
My absolute favorite thing about Scandic Bryggen is that it is located right on the harbor and within a stone’s throw of the city center. There is a large parking lot out front (which includes electric vehicle chargers), so you can park your car and go enjoy a drink at Sjøgata Pub or somewhere else in the city.

If you arrive before your check-in time, be sure to go to the front desk and obtain a small permit to put on the car if you plan to park it there and go into the city.
The parking lot is also plowed during the wintertime and parking is free for guests at all times of the year.
Front Desk Services & Lobby
Everyone at Scandic Bryggen was so kind and helpful. The hotel also has a huge lobby where you can hang out, as well as a small shop to purchase drinks, snacks, or food on the go.

Why is this Scandic better than the other Scandics in Honningsvåg?
Well, I wouldn’t say it is better, but it does have some advantages compared to the other two.
Here is a list of pros and cons for each hotel:
Pros
- Scandic Bryggen: location is perfect, open year-round, best rated of the three hotels (8.5 on Booking.com)
- Scandic Honningsvåg: location is perfect
- Scandic Nordkapp: situated in nature if you want to stay away from the center
Cons
- Scandic Bryggen: nothing that I can think of
- Scandic Honningsvåg: only open during the summer months; Booking.com rating is 7.5
- Scandic Nordkapp: only open during the summer months, not in the center and requires a car to get to; Booking.com rating is 7.3

So, if you are visiting Honningsvåg in winter or the shoulder season, Scandic Bryggen is your only option of the three Scandics.
If you are visiting in the summer, I still believe it may be your best option if location matters and if you’re concerned about ratings of the place.
